Cupping Therapy
Discover the Benefits of Cupping Therapy at In Balance Therapy Clinic
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine whereby one or more cups are placed on the skin to alleviate pain and create desired changes in the soft tissue structures.
At InBalance, Leanne uses bell-shaped cups where air is suctioned from the cup via a small handheld pump. Depending on the nature of your complaint and the goal we are trying to achieve, one or more cups may be left stationary. The suction pressure will be determined by your comfort level and to achieve the desired outcome. Pressure can be adjusted during application or abandoned for an alternative technique if your tissues prove too sensitive.
Gliding the cups is also another very effective technique we use to help restore ‘normal’ balanced tone and resting length to muscles, tendons and fascia. During gliding, Leanne uses light suction and regularly checks with you, adjusting pressure if necessary, to achieve the best therapeutic outcome.
The negative pressure created by the cups has many wonderful benefits including;
After a cupping session your skin may turn red and show slight bruising. If Leanne has used a stronger pressure with your consent, she will confirm any discoloration changes and these changes will resolve usually within seven days or less of treatment.
At no time do we perform deep intense cupping that results in deep purple bruising or bleeding as seen in some of the photos on the internet.
If you would like to experience the benefits of cupping, book an appointment with Leanne or give her a call to see if cupping is right for you.

The negative pressure created by the cups has many wonderful benefits including;
- increasing blood circulation which brings in nutrients to damaged or stressed tissues & flushes damaged or dying cells from the problem area.
- It helps to retore ‘normal’ shape, texture and tone to muscles and other soft tissue structures, thereby reducing pain, inflammation or altered nerve sensation.
- Sometimes soft tissues can adhere or get stuck together (think stiffness, restricted movements, or trapped nerves) which the gentle negative pressure can help release.
